LA MAIN LIBRARY

The Los Angeles Central Library (built 1926) is a treasury of databases, photo collections, public computer access, children's and teens programs, adult literacy, language learning center, classic architecture –and real books to read. In 1986, an arsonist nearly destroyed the library. Thousands of Angelenos donated their time to clean and repair whatever books could be saved. The ancient Egyptian revival style building is the third largest library in the United States.

Sustainability Committee

Launched in October 2008, the DLANC Sustainability Committee has been developing a community greening strategy and resource toolkit for Downtown and Los Angeles stakeholders.

Our Mission

The Sustainability Committee is dedicated to empowering the downtown community to create a culture of sustainability. We will work with the community to increase accessibility to existing programs and services through outreach and public education. We will identify and create opportunities for new programming and partnerships to meet our goals for a more livable, affordable, and efficient urban center.

Regular monthly meetings and project workshops

The Committee meets the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 7:45 at the Central Public Library.
