ANGELS FLIGHT

Built in 1901, Angels Flight has two red cars – named Sinai and Olivet – and an ornate archway labeled “Angeles Flight”, to ferry passengers up and down a steep incline in the Bunker Hill district. The landmark funicular railway is said to be the world's shortest incorporated railway; it's a public utility operated as a franchise granted by the City of L. A. Closed for restoration, it will reopen “in the near future.” Angels Flight was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 13, 2000.

Park[ing] Day 2010 - Planning Meeting

This is the fourth year for Park[ing] Day LA - an international, city-wide event highlighting the importance of parks and open space in our urban neighborhood. By taking over a parking spot, community members build small parks-for-a-day with their own vision of the future.

What if streets were for people? What would our city look like?

This year, the DLANC Sustainability Committee invites all interested persons to a Park[ing] Day LA planning meeting at the railLA Exhibition Space (525 S. Flower Street, enter from Figueroa). We will be discussing project ideas and resources and continue to build the network that supports this effort annually.

Not just a park[ing] space - a park[ing] LOT!

This year the DLANC Sustainability Committee would like you and all community partners to come and stage a green park[ing] lot - we hope to not only fill an entire blank lot with little parks, but we plan to introduce our community to a proposed pilot project. We are at the very early stages of learning what it will take for the Downtown Los Angeles Youth & Cultural Center to build a "green parking lot" which will help them generate much-needed revenue for their operations at the corner of W. 2nd Street and South Beaudry (see map here). Email us at sustainability@dlanc.com if you would like to get involved or attend this meeting!
